My First Blog!

Hello!

For this adventure, I went up to the North Mountain Fire Lookout, or up as far as I could go before the snow got too bad to navigate through. It was absolutely stunning up there! Honestly, with all I’ve seen so far, which isn’t much compared to others, this location is probably the best in my humble opinion. Absolutely beautiful, dead silent, no one bothering you, wildlife at its finest, and a wonderfully cool winter breeze. Lately Washington has had some amazing weather with really sunny days (sadly not as of writing this), so I took advantage of it this last weekend and drove up here with my niece last Friday, and with my Mother and dogs on Saturday.

On Friday, I had absolutely no idea what I was going into. I heard great reviews of the location but I had no idea what the road conditions would be, the weather, the amount of snow, or amount of daylight. It’s just one of those things you play by ear. So, I started up the drive and noticed almost immediately that the road definitely needs work. It wasn’t impossible or even near the worst I’ve seen, but it was still pretty messed up in some areas. The further up I went, the better the views were, with Whitehorse Mountain taking up a huge, gorgeous view, and Mount Baker taking up another huge portion of the sky, with the beautiful valley in-between them, adding the perfect colors and views that any photographer would dream of.

Saturday was different, I knew how the roads were, I knew the weather was great, and I knew how the snow was. I went up to where I stopped on Friday with my dogs and Mother, along with my Minolta X-370 camera and tripod. I got as many photos as I could on both the Minolta and my phone. Sadly, though, my phone does not allow .RAW image formatting, which, an easy way to explain, is RAW format is an uncompressed, unprocessed file type that contains all original data from a camera sensor, acting as a "digital negative" for high-quality, non-destructive editing. Another words, it gives the editing software more to work with.

With my phone not allowing .RAW formatting, I am working with JPEG files instead, which are basically the bare minimum. So, the photos I took didn’t really turn out very well, along with a vast majority of every other image I’ve taken on my phone.

So I’m working up a plan, either to save up for a phone that allows .RAW formatting, because I’m in need of a new phone anyways, or to get a professional photography camera. To me, the phone is a better route because of the cost.

Honestly, I still plan to try my best at editing photos from my phone. Depending on how I take them and the settings I set, some of the photos turn out to be incredible, honestly just depends on the day.
